Educational Media

Media of various kinds have been used in education for many years, both in schools and informal settings. The production of educational media is now becoming a crucial part of the media and cultural industries; and there is particular interest in the application of new media forms (such as games and the internet) for learning. We think there are important critical questions to be asked about these media: about how they represent the world; about how they combine education and entertainment; and about how children (and parents) use and engage with them. The Centres has conducted several major projects in this area, both on ‘old’ and ‘new’ media; and we have several research students working in the field. We also teach on courses relating to the production of educational media in the MA in Media, Culture and Communication.
